Oscar Laighton (1839-1939) was an author from New Hampshire and brother of the poet Celia Thaxter. This book records his interesting recollections and musings of his ninety years on the Isles of Shoals. The islands span the border of New Hampshire and Maine. The author moved there when he was 3 months old and his father took up a lighthouse keeper position.

The inscription on the free front endpaper reads “O, welcome days that bring me Joy! / Star Island / August 4, 1930 / Oscar Laighton.”.
