Beautifully bound Roman Catholic prayer and devotional book printed in the German language. Purple velvet laid over boards with brass-banded edges, four applied brass ornaments to the front corners, and cinched together with a brass clasp.  A scene of Christ holding a child and a book hand-painted on an oval badge and applied to the front board.  All edges are gilt and decoratively gauffered.  The frontispiece is an engraving of the Virgin Mary and separated from the color lithographed title page with a tissue guard.  An old-style small calling card with the name Mr. Theodore J. Fritz is taped to the first fly-leaf and identifies the book as one belonging to his grandmother and mother.  A beautiful and unusually bound treasure.
