Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) was a beloved English author and illustrator of children’s books. Though she lived in Victorian era England, Greenaway’s illustrated children were dressed in the style of the late 18th century, evoking a nostalgic air. A treat in this first American edition is the inclusion of illustrations dropped after the first English edition was published, including the Witch and poem on page 35, the Goblin on page 46, and the scary “old man” kidnapping a boy on page 63.
