Washington Irving’s (1783-1859) classic tale of a lazy and alcoholic local man named Rip Van Winkle told in rhyming verse by George Webster (1828-1899). A curious tale for children about a man who drinks alcohol and falls asleep for twenty years.

The rear wrapper lists the publisher’s book series including “Aunt Louisa’s Big Picture Series. 36 Kinds—25 Cents Each,” “New Paper Dolls,” “Dolly Varden Dolls,” and “Chiromagica. Magical Hand and Mysterious Question-Answerer.” Dolly Varden Dolls and the Chiromagica game were both published by McLoughlin in the 1870s.
