[England]: Manuscript, No date [19th century]. Wraps. [MANUSCRIPT BOOK OF PENMANSHIP] [JUVENILE]. No place identified [England], No date [19th century--c. 1860].
16mo oblong (6” x 7 ¾”); [48] unlined pages; red, blue and black marbled stiff wrapper, small hand-lettered label pasted on front; binder’s string tie; ink script on every page; light shelf-wear to wrapper, some bleed-through of ink; near fine. Near fine. Item #1734

A lovely copybook of penmanship, not dated, but most certainly mid-19th century by the style of the writing and the marbled wrapper covering the unlined leaves. No information was able to be gathered about the name of the school or in what country she lived, but from the copied town names, she most certainly was English. Town names written in exacting script are Almondbury, Dartmouth, Hamburgh, Lancaster, Montgomery, Queenhope, and Yarmouth. Letters, words, and phrases are all written in neat fancy cursive. Phrases include: “Action generally promotes health,” “Beware of the man who has no regard to his [“reputation” in tiny letters on one line],” “Courteous behaviour is a commendable accompl [sentence not finished],” “Division and Contention are supported by Pride.”.
