Item #2022

A surprising children’s book from the well-known British futurist author, H. G. [Herbert George] Wells (1866-1946). Well known for his “The War of the Worlds” [1898], he wrote novels and short stories and is considered to be the “father of science fiction” by some. This book was written for his two sons who are pictured on the front board. The book details children’s floor play in building towns, cities, in different cultures using blocks, boards and planks, bricks, cardboard tubes, trains, and toy soldiers. War games are quickly touched on in the final chapter. The dialogue is directed at both children and their adult caretakers.
