First printed around 1828 by John Metcalf, then located in Wendell, Massachusetts, this copy was after he moved to Northampton around 1833. Published with Johnathan Hunt Butler. A nice imprint of the alphabet and numbers precedes the introduction to the Bible stories. Eighteen nicely illustrated stories with Biblical chapter references follow: Death of Abel; The Flood; Abraham offers up Isaac; Pharaoh and his host drowned in the Red Sea; Samson slayeth the Lion; Samson carrieth away the gates of the city; Absalom slain; Solomon’s Judgement; Elijah fed by Ravens; Elijah taken up to heaven, Haman hanged; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery Furnace; Simeon’s Blessing; Joseph flies to Egypt; Woman of Samaria; Ship in a Storm; Judas betrays Christ; and Crucifixion. The final page is unillustrated and titled Christ’s Resurrection.
