Small 4to (11 ¾” x 8 ¼”); [57]-80pp; pale green wrapper printed in orange, pictorial of animals reading a book and a Jack-O-Lantern shakes hands with a turkey; rear wrapper features advertisements; publisher’s string binding; inside wrappers feature ads printed in orange; text and illustrations; chipping to bottom edge of wrapper, lightly age-toned paper, some damp staining; very good minus. One of the scarce holiday covers for the weekly periodical, Harper’s Young People. An anthropomorphic Jack-O-Lantern shaking hands with a Thanksgiving turkey is featured on the front wrapper and signed “Frank Ver Beck.” William Frances Ver Beck (1858-1933), is known for his humorous animal illustrations. This issue features stories, including one about Abe Lincoln, and one titled “Three Football Captains.” Also included are Crafts, riddles, cartoons, and one song with music titled “Christmas Carol.”.
