Small 4to (9 ¾” x 7 1/8”); xii, 251pp; vellum over board, gilt stamped lettering and pictorial of a child riding a fish under the sea; gilt decorating and lettering on spine; top edge gilt, fore edge and bottom untrimmed; color pictorial eps of a waves printed in blue; hand-made paper; fp with titled tissue guard; decorated title page; 23 color plates tipped onto cream-colored stiff leaves; light hand soiling to vellum, top edges of front eps chipped, light age-toning of edges; very good plus. One of the children’s books authored by Isabel Weld Anderson, nee Perkins (1876-1948). She was a Boston heiress, philanthropist, and author. Widely traveled during her privileged youth and later with her husband, Larz Anderson, who served in various diplomatic posts, including as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan. The author is known for her books on travel, poetry, and those for children.
