Dating of the book based on the OCLC cataloging and the purchase of McLoughlin Bros. publishing by the Milton Bradley Company of Springfield, Mass. One of the black line illustrations is signed “E. Nister” for Ernest Nister, the other is signed “W. Foster.” The line drawings and the color pictorials are in the style of Louis Wain but are not signed. Common in this time for companies to “borrow” the illustrations without permission or credit.
