In 1877, George Chaney (1836-1922), a Massachusetts pastor and activist left his Boston pulpit and spent a year in Hawaii and California. The accomplishments in his resume are somewhat exhuasting to review and he must have been quite a force for good. His biography can be found on the Unitarian Universalist Digital Archive.
