Stiff wraps. 8vo; 87pp; stiff manila colored wrapper, two stab-holes tied with orange silk ribbon; glazed paper; binding tight and appears unread; staining to wrapper, damp staining to lower corner and edge some pages, no odors; very good. Posthumously published, the dedication page reads, “In Memory of the Author”. A letter dated July 7, 1883, Hingham [Mass.], from John D. [Davis] Long precedes the text and makes mention of the author, “Miss Edna”, having submitted the narration of her trip in the form of letters to the Oxford Democrat, a newspaper located in the town of Paris, county of Oxford, Maine. Miss Edna’s trip taken was by railroad from Maine on the Grand Trunk Railway. Long was born in Maine, and although his professional and political life was centered in Massachusetts after his graduation from Harvard. He served as the 32nd Governor of Massachusetts, and the 34th Secretary of the Navy under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt. Recording her trip to Mississippi, “Miss Edna” wrote in detail to her hometown newspaper.
